Local band coming into own

As a band, Broken Glass Wings have only been around since the winter of 2005, but in that short time they have definitely established themselves within the London music scene.

They have a hard-hitting sound the likes of local-bands Seconds To Go and CapeSide and although inspiration is drawn from a number of eclectic and classic bands, such as Queen, Silverchair and Blink-182, Broken Glass Wings does not emulate their mentors.

On the night of Saturday September 16, Broken Glass Wings played at a small club called the Whippet Lounge, which is next door to the Embassy on Dundas St in London. The original venue was supposed to be downtown at the Salt Lounge, but was changed at the last second due to sound problems at the club. A quick change of venue can really break a show, but for these guys it only showed them how strong their fan base really is.

The band played for a small crowd but still put on a highly energetic show, which also featured two new songs that will be released on their full-length album sometime next spring.

Along with their full-length album, Broken Glass Wings have also been scouted by Ohio based label, Standby Records.

The 2006 London Music Awards and Jack Richardson Awards, Broken Glass Wings stood as prospects for Group of the Year, Metal Band of the Year in the (London Music Awards), as well as Best Metal Band (Jack Richardson Awards). Although they didn't actually win any awards, it is still very impressive for such a fresh band to be nominated.

Future plans for Broken Glass Wings include a tour of the east and west coasts of Canada, with good friends The Growing Down and A Satellite Connecticut. Keep an eye, but mostly an ear, out for this band as they are not to be missed. Check them out on myspace.com for future tours and to have a listen to their music.
