The natural makeup look is in this fall, but try mixing it up other trends.

With fall right around the corner and the new school year about to begin, it is time to update your beauty routine.

We often get comfortable using the same products repeatedly and stick with the same mascara for years until the company finally discontinues it. This year, try something fresh and new.

This year’s fall trends are very diverse and range from a simple, natural makeup to an overdone, painterly style makeup.

One of the most prominent trends seen on the runway is the “no makeup, makeup” look. This look’s goal is to achieve a perfect complexion and to define your best features without making it look like you are wearing makeup.

For this look, make sure your skin is prepped well and then finish your skincare routine by using the new Cover FX Illuminating primer instead of using a highly pigmented foundation, try a tinted moisturizer or a BB cream and apply it with your hands. This will make the application seamless and natural looking.

A trend that is completely opposite to the natural look is the punk, futuristic look. This trend can be harder to pull off but if applied properly, it can look quite beautiful.

The main element to this trend is to use cool, muted tones such as greys, silvers and taupe. This look does not have to be dark, just muted.

Instead of neutral browns, try applying a soft, grey eye shadow to the eyelid and contour it with a gunmetal shade. If you do not wear much eye makeup, try a pale lip colour or a frosty, cool toned purple.

Another popular trend this fall is creative eyeliner.

Winged liner, exaggerated cat eyes and double winged liners are fun and easy to achieve. Products such as Lise Watier’s Feline or Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Line make it effortless to achieve the perfect winged line.

If you want to get creative, try doing coloured liners or add a metallic shine to them by pressing on some eye shadow.

The last style I want to introduce is the smoky eye; the only difference this year is that it is more of a painterly look.

Blend less and try using more cream eye shadows that are applied with a brush. Brands such as NARS, MAC and Maybelline all make excellent cream products that are easy to apply and will last all day without smudging.

There are many exciting makeup trends this year and you should consider incorporating them into your daily beauty routine. Change your lip colour, achieve that perfect no makeup, makeup or try a futuristic, punk look.
