Dallas Smith and his opening band Petric will be headlining this years' Froshfest.

Country music will be ringing through the halls of Fanshawe’s J Gym on Thursday, September 10.

“For our frosh concerts, we always cycle through different genres for our headlining act,” said VP Entertainment for the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU), Kevin Kaisar.

And this year’s star is Dallas Smith, known for his hits such as “Wastin’ Gas” and “Lifted”.

Smith has been moving up in the country world, generating five singles from his first album Jumped Right In and was nominated for Country Album of the Year at the 2013 Juno Awards.

But before Smith enters the stage, Petric, the talented brother duo, will be getting the crowd pumped up. They are best known for their hit “Here Goes Everything”.

The Petric brothers are new to the country scene, starting their band in 2014 and releasing their first single this past May.

“I am super excited to play at Fanshawe,” said Petric’s lead guitarist Jason Petric. “This is going to be the first time that Tom (Petric’s lead singer) and I get to try our songs acoustically; it is very new and exciting for us.”

Both country fans and students who crave a good show will be treated to an exciting night.

“Dallas puts on the best show in all of the country,” Petric said. “We got to see it 11 or 12 times during our tour [opening for Dallas Smith] and we never got sick of it; he performs as good of a show as possible.”

One ticket will be included in the frosh kits, but those who want to buy extra can buy them in J Gym 3 anytime between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. from August 31 to September 10.

Tickets will also be available at the Biz Booth on September 8 until the show and will cost $10 for students and $15 for guests.

Smith, with Petric as his opening band, just finished the western leg of his Canadian Tippin’ Point Tour, but both Smith and Petric are looking forward to playing together again.

“Those guys are great,” Dallas said of Petric. “A lot of raw talent there.”

For Petric, they are excited to try out their new sound for Fanshawe students.

“We are excited to get up there and perform,” Petric said. “This is a completely different show than we did with Dallas last time.”

And with Smith headlining froshfest, plaid shirts and cowboy boots will be the perfect start to the school year.

“I want to get the students excited for the start of school,” Smith said. “Hopefully I can make everyone excited to come down, start off [the year] on a good note and have a bunch of fun together.”

The concert begins at 8 p.m. and Petric wants to make sure he leaves an important tip with Fanshawe students before the concert. “Bring your party pants and be ready to stay out late.”
