And so begins round two of the Ontario Hockey League playoffs.

Max Domi, Mitchell Marner and the London Knights have moved on to the second round of the OHL playoffs and are now faced with the difficult task of taking on Dylan Strome, Connor McDavid and the Erie Otters.

The Otter’s got a bit of a scare but eventually took down their first round opponent, knocking off the Sarnia Sting in five games.

McDavid – dubbed The Next One by the media – led his team with three goals and six assists. Teammate and OHL scoring champ Strome chipped in four goals and four assists of his own. Veteran goaltender Devin Williams showed poise, bouncing back from a terrible start in game four and pitching a shutout in the series clinching game five.

The London Knight’s first round matchup against the Kitchener Rangers featured a few bumps in the road but ultimately the Knights prevailed, taking the series in six games. Marner led all playoff scorers by a wide margin in the first round by putting up eight goals and seven assists. The Knight’s Domi put up a respectable three goals and four assists in the first round series.

London hopes that the momentum it’s built from the recent victory over the Rangers in Kitchener will carry over into their series against Erie.

“They’re a great hockey team,” Domi said of the Erie Otters to the London Free Press. “We know that. They’ve got a lot of power up front. We’ve got to be ready – a lot of meetings and video, then we should be ready to go.”

Erie dominated the season series between the Knights and Otters, winning five of the six games between the two teams. London’s lone win against Erie this season came in a shootout victory back on October 11 that helped propel the team to their eventual third place regular season finish.

But the playoffs offer a chance for a fresh start.

The Knights are going to need big performances from their two star forwards up front if they are going to have a shot at keeping pace with Erie, who finished the regular season as the second highest scoring team in the league. But the real key to the series will be rookie goaltender Tyler Parsons.

Parsons has taken over as the starting goaltender for the Knights since the playoffs have begun. The young goalie has posted a superb .921SV per cent while registering his first shutout of the year last week in London’s game six victory over the Rangers.

A perfect blend of timely goaltending and high-powered offense will once again be the recipe for the Knight’s playoff hopes.

Catch London at home for game three on April 12 with game four scheduled on April 14. A potential game six is set for April 20 at the Budweiser Gardens. All games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
