Around the Ring: Predictions for RAW Unforgiven PPV

Alrighty! It's that time of the month where a Raw PPV overshadows a mediocre Smackdown TV program and gives us the ol' “let's give ‘em a Raw preview of the PPV where nothing really happens.”

So, with that said, let's run down the card for this Sunday's Unforgiven PPV (which has just happened by the time you read this) and see what I can predict.

Kane vs. Umaga — I'm going out on a limb and saying that the undefeated Samoan Bulldozer will take Kane in this one. I mean, Kane lost to a fake Kane after crying for months over the date his movie was being released on, and all of a sudden gets put into this feud? Man, the writers are really lost on what to do with Kane while Umaga is actually quite amusing and entertaining in the ring (not so much on the mic — or his manager for that matter).

Carlito vs. Randy Orton — Carlito needs to go up in the ranks and Orton just lost to Hogan at Summerslam. Orton supposedly failed another “wellness” test but hasn't been pulled from house shows or TV but I do have a feeling he'll be punished by WWE management by losing this match. I hated Carlito for the first year, but I kind of like him now. He's got potential, while Orton has dropped the ball on so many occasions already. This one will be won by Carlito, even if it may be by disqualification on Orton's part.

The Spirit Squad vs. The Highlanders for the WWE Tag Titles — If the writers or creative team knew what was good for them, they'd give the tag team division the boost it so truly deserves. It's been a while since the WWE had an entertaining “tag team” and not just two wrestlers coming together to justify the WWE having a pair of belts. The Highlanders are going to start the new tag revolution on Raw (while at least on Smackdown, tag wrestling is their strongest point). The Spirit Squad will disband soon after this and perhaps form opposite tag teams. Nonetheless, I predict the Highlanders will win this one.

Lita vs. Trish Stratus for the WWE Women's Championship — This one is really hard for me to predict. If Trish wins, the belt is returned and then declared vacant. If Lita wins, Trish goes out with a loss. I have no clue how they're going to work this, but I'm sure that Trish will go out in her hometown as the winner, but perhaps not the champ. Thanks for the ride, Trish…and no, I don't mean that in any sexual way.

Johnny Nitro vs. Jeff Hardy for the Intercontinental Championship — Ok, Summerslam hardly had any championship matches and now we're already on our third of the night? This is good shit. If Nitro and Hardy do what they did two weeks ago on Raw and push it just a little higher, this very well could be a show stealer. Nitro has really shown why he should wear the belt as of late, but I think Hardy coming back and winning the fans over makes him a good candidate for carrying the belt. It should be interesting to see where this goes, but Hardy always has come up short with titles and I think Melina is going to do something to ruin Hardy's chance. I predict Nitro will win, but I hope I'm wrong.

DX vs. The McMahons and The Big Show in a Hell in the Cell - I want blood and we'll get plenty here. Hopefully the feud will end with this match and we get something interesting to either take the focus of DX and the McMahons or we see one of DX turn on each other (although we don't need another six months of a HHH/HBK feud). I think DX will win this one and I'm praying this is the end of this now dragged out feud.

John Cena vs. Edge for the WWE Championship in a TLC match - Cena is going to get booed out of the building and I can guarantee that. I think Smackdown needs more high profile talent and I don't think that the WWE will let Edge lose a) in Toronto and b) a TLC match. They've invested too much time into the Rated R Superstar as one of the best heels ever on Raw. I think that Cena will deliver one hell of a match with Edge but he's going to Smackdown while Edge continues to rein on Raw. And no, I'm not a Cena hater…it's just the way this business works. And if I'm wrong…uh, pretend you didn't read this, ok?
