Malibu, East London most gluttonous treasure

If you haven't already ventured up to Dundas Street for some eats just yet you may just want to saunter your way down to the Malibu Restaurant, located at 1622 Dundas Street, just west of Second Street, about a 20 minute walk from Fanshawe or a five minute car ride.

The Malibu is another one of those east London diner treasures that Londoners from all corners of the city like to visit. And like most diners this place is usually packed during the breakfast hours, especially on the weekends. But don't be fooled, the Malibu offers up good lunchtime and dinnertime eats as well, and seats can be hard to come by at anytime of the day.

If you haven't guessed yet I've got a thing for breakfast, and the Malibu has one of the best breakfast menus going. While they serve up your standard bacon and eggs fair, if you do decide to make a stop here I suggest you try one of their skillets, topped with eggs made to order. The nice thing is the shredded potato that comes in the skillet. Tasty!

If you're a little-less adventurous try the peameal bacon, it's cut nice and thick. They also make great eggs benedict. Most meals come with Texas sized toast, and the home fries are what I come to expect, real potatoes, not those frozen deep fried squares most places try to pass off as home fries.

Lunch offers up a wide variety of sandwiches and some standard combos. The clubhouse for two is excellent, the beef dip delicious and the hot turkey is a favourite of mine.

Dinner offers up a range of meals, including chops, steak, fish, pastas, pizza and panzerottis. If you order the panz be prepared to be taking some home. Most dinners come with a salad and a choice of potato or rice. If you order one of their daily dinner specials, beverage and desert, I recommend the rice pudding, will be included. They range in cost from $10.95 — $14.95 on any given day.

What usually makes or breaks dining out for me is the quality of service. At the Malibu the staff is courteous and service is generally fast. One thing to note is that the staff isn't as zealous on topping up your coffee in the morning hours, but from my experience it's because it's usually your server topping you up, not a random server going around topping up at any given time.

What I think you'll love up about the Malibu is that the food is reasonably priced, a skillet can be had for just under $8, lunch time meals will fall within the same price range with dinner being slightly more expensive depending on the order. One thing is for certain you'll never the leave Malibu hungry, as the large food portions will obliterate anyone's hunger. The Malibu is one of my favourite places to eat, and if you're looking to dine out you might not find much better than this jewel.
