Here we see Frugal Fashionista pair Classic Blue with some soft Glacier Gray. She's ready for spring.

March is upon us, and that means less than two weeks until the first day of spring. No really, despite the copious amounts of snow and sub-zero temperatures, spring is almost here.

In preparation for the season, Pantone released its Fashion Color Report for spring 2015. This season we’ll be seeing an eclectic mix of colours from a variety of blues, pastels, understated brights and soft neutrals. This season’s colour palette is perfect for mixing and matching, with shades that can stand alone or work well with others.

Many shades that have been used in recent seasons are reappearing in the spring 2015 palette. Frugal fashionistas everywhere rejoice – this means you can create a spring wardrobe without going broke.

Start digging – there’s got to be at least a few of these colours already residing in the back of your closet.

Marsala

This wonderfully rich colour has been dubbed the Pantone colour of the year. Although it is somewhat surprising to see this deep burgundy shade in spring fashion, many designers have taken inspiration from the ‘70s this year. Many shades often shown in the fall season are making an appearance this spring, which is great for your wallet. Save money and repurpose your fall fashions.

Strawberry Ice

Don’t let the name fool you – this fun shade of pink is invigorating and warm. Strawberry Ice is a flattering shade of pink and the perfect spring colour. Pair with Glacier Gray for a soft pastel look or with Tangerine for a fun and playful look that’s not overwhelming.

Classic Blue

The colour of confidence and harmony, Classic Blue is an anchor to the spring/summer 2015 palette. When worn alone, Classic Blue makes a statement and commands a room. For a playful look, try pairing this shade with the playful colours of the season – Strawberry Ice and Tangerine. Classic Blue also pairs well with Marsala.

Scuba Blue

A playful shade, Scuba Blue adds some interest to a rather neutral spring palette. This colour can be worn alone or used brighten up a neutral outfit with a bold Scuba Blue statement piece. With a tropical ocean feel, Scuba Blue pairs well with Classic Blue and Lucite Green.

Aquamarine

This airy blue is the lead colour for the spring/summer 2015 season and has been shown by many designers on the spring runways. Aquamarine can be easily dressed up or down, and it pairs well with Marsala and Glacier Gray.

Lucite Green

This pastel has a soft minty glow, however, the colour is just dark enough that fair skinned ladies can still rock it without looking washed out. Lucite Green is a soothing and luxurious shade and pairs well with Scuba Blue and Classic Blue.

Glacier Gray

This wonderful neutral is the perfect shade of grey for mixing and matching within the spring palette. Glacier Gray contrasts and enhances its fellow spring colours, without taking away from them.

Tangerine

This playful shade spices up the spring palette. Keeping with the ‘70s-inspiration fashions this season, Tangerine is the perfect colour to pull off a ‘70s-inspired Mod Squad look. Although Tangerine is a bold shade, it can be worn without overpowering an outfit. It can stand alone or brighten up a pattern, and it pairs well with Strawberry Ice.

Hopefully all this talk of spring colours has inspired you to turn a blind eye to the snow and start incorporating these wonderful colors into your wardrobe now.
