GAULD, Nicholas

Nicholas Gauld

Nicholas Gauld is a first year student from Niagara Falls studying for his Diploma in the Theatre Arts - Technical Production program. Nicholas has been involved in the live theatre industry for just over three years with his love for lighting. His most recent involvement includes working on the live 2014 New Year’s Eve event in Niagara Falls and working as a stagehand for Greg Frewin, the International Grand Champion of Magic. (Can you believe he has worked with live tigers?!) Back home Nicholas loves to play with his seven year old brother Lucas, spend time with family, friends and his girlfriend Emilee. Close friends know that Nicholas can be shy guy at first but in the end he always has people laughing with his singing and dance moves. Throughout high school he was the Technical Co-ordinator on the Student Council and wants more of a challenge. His goal is to make you his fellow students at Fanshawe know that your voice is heard and make your college experience one to remember. “We all have dreams, that’s why we go to college, to make those dreams come true.” If you have any questions you can always reach Nicholas Gauld through his email; n_gauld@fanshaweonline.ca “I look forward to meeting you and making your Fanshawe experience great by running to be your School of Design Representative for the 2014-2015 school year.“

VAN ES, Amy

Amy Van Es

I’m in my final year of the Graphic Design program. I’m running to be the representative for the School of Design. In my time here, I’ve tried my best to be an active member of Fanshawe and the London community at large.I’ve worked with a team of students and the City to create a portal for students who are new to the area. Your London Calling provides information to help you get acquainted and involved in the city, from when garbage day is, to where the Beer Stores are.I also write a column for the newspaper, which focuses on the relationship between society and the arts.I plan to speak to design students and hear what you think needs to be changed. Thinking ahead, improvements could be made to keep software consistent and up-to-date in our classrooms, the library and homework labs.Because of our relatively small classes in the design school, there is ample opportunity for a strong community to be built. It’s the relationships we build here that are going to help us grow both in our careers and our personal lives as we graduate.I love this place and want to make this place even better for the students that’ll be here long after I’m gone.

My optimism has paved a path for me to be firm believers in the phrase “Never, Never, Never give up”, a very simple phrase which however regurgitate with complex meaning, in this phrase the writer’s expert use of repetition helps to remind me that giving up is fortuitous. This simple phrase has not only aided me in overcoming many obstacles both personal and educational, it has also provided me with the motivation I need to cope with any given task no matter its rigidity.
