Exec Corner: Save the high school drama for yo' momma

Scared, and/or curious and a first year student or just someone who wants something to read?

Hi first year student (or person who is really bored), I hope you are having a good time so far, I know I am.

I've been attending Fanshawe College for about four years. I enrolled and graduated Culinary Management a few years back so if you culinary students are lost and confused I can iron out your shirt for ya.

I came back to Fanshawe College for Photography, which I am currently enrolled in as you read this. This mass amount of experience over the years in this college has given me the advice I am about to share with you.

Go to class. I know this sounds obvious and maybe to some even boring and not cool because all you want to do is drink beer and stay up all night. After all it's college, why shouldn't you drink beer and party all night? I'll tell you why. BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS. If you can pull it off and do both, kudos to you.

Just remember this: College costs a lot of money and you came here to learn. Sure you can learn things at parties, I know I have. Such things as who not to make "study" groups with or who you want to "study" with. Be open to a lot of things.

Remember your high school drama? Well, nobody likes it, and by nobody I mean 99 per cent of people, so keep it in high school.

Never be afraid to ask questions, EVER. If you are afraid to ask questions, ask me the question and I'll find the answer for you.

The best advice I can give is that every first year student here is probably just as confused and looking for new friends as much as you are so make the best of it. No regrets.

Your teachers are here to teach you and most of them WANT to teach you, so take advantage of that. If you have questions for your teachers, ask them because its there job to answer.

If you have a problem with your teacher don't let it bring you down, come to me and I will help you sort it out, it's my job.

There is 98798437498573 ways to have fun in college, try to figure them all out. The Fanshawe Student Union is here to help you have a great, fun and productive time so please contact us with anything on your mind.
