Beauty Boy: Beauty on a budget
It has been pointed out to me
that most of my articles have been
more about prestige and artist
brands of makeup rather than more
affordable brands of makeup. This
isn't because I don't like drugstore
makeup, it's just because I normally
use professional products in my
kit. That being said, there are some
excellent products out there that
deserve to be in the spotlight.
L'Oreal offers many facial cosmetics that are excellent in quality and are very affordable. Their True Match foundation is extremely lightweight but has a very buildable coverage, which makes it perfect for pretty much anyone. This foundation is so light that it can actually be applied with an airbrush machine. Another bonus about this foundation is that it has a huge range of colour selection, so even the darkest and lightest complexions can find a shade that matches perfectly — hence the name “True Match.”
L'Oreal's Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream is one of the most extraordinary BB Creams I have ever tried. If you are ever worried about creating a mask effect, this is the product for you. The product starts off white and then with its “Beautifying Beads” it starts to adjust to your skin colour as you blend, creating a flawless complexion. This product is extremely lightweight, very hydrating and is perfect for day to day wear.
Another favourite drugstore makeup product that I even use in my kit is Marcelle's loose Face Powder. Since compact powders are filled with gum and binders that can create a “cakey” effect, loose powders are the best way to set your foundation. Marcelle's loose powder is so finely milled that it feels so soft on your skin while creating a flawless finish. It also comes in two shades, so if you have a darker complexion and are afraid of the powder going ashy, there is a medium shade that will work! Another plus to using the Marcelle Face Powder is it's a Canadian brand, which I find very important.
Lastly, the Revlon Just Bitten lip stains are one of the best lip stains out there, with an excellent array of colours. The lip stains give just a right amount of colour for a subtle day look or can be layered with a lipstick to create a more dramatic, long-lasting look. Also, lip stains are known to be a bit drying, but Revlon's Just Bitten one is dual ended, which includes a lip balm that helps retain the moisture in the lips.
While it's nice to have prestige makeup, it isn't always the most affordable and there are tons of drugstore cosmetic brands that are perfect for everyday wear. Treat yourself to your favourite prestige cosmetic product and partner it up with some of my favourite drugstore products!
